  • Publications

    • Beacon – The official GSCA newsletter published twice a year. The Beacon gives members a place to turn for practical, how to ideas addressing the issues that school counselors face daily.   

    • GSCA Journal – GSCA’s yearly journal provides peer reviewed articles on school counseling theory, research, practices and techniques.  Your GSCA membership helps you stay on top of the latest theories and advances in the field.  Members receive the printed version of the journal once a year and also have access to full-text articles and archives online.   

  • Website Resources – One of the best benefits of GSCA membership is access to a plethora of free resources via our website.  Need an idea for a group or classroom guidance lesson; it is all just a click away.  Your membership in GSCA opens the door to a world of materials to use on a daily basis. 

  • Professional Development – As everyone knows, it is important to participate in regular, certified professional development opportunities.  GSCA offers the following opportunities:

    •  Annual Conference – Includes Professional networking opportunities with colleagues, counselor educators, college admissions representatives, school administrators, Department of Education, as well as presentations from counselors across the state.  If you miss a session, as a GSCA member you will have access to the Power Point and handouts of all conference presenters.  Additionally, you may earn up to 2 SDU’s for attending Annual Conference.   

    •  Leadership Development Institute (LDI) – Each year GSCA offers a leadership development for all member of the GSCA Leadership Team.  This is a time to learn more about GSCA and get involved in moving the counseling profession in the state of Georgia forward.  This institute prepares participants to help lead the organization for the next year.  Additionally, participants may earn 1 SDU for attending the entire institute.   

    •  Peer Helper Conference

    •  Mentoring Program – New to counseling? New to counseling in Georgia?  Sign up to be a mentee?  Seasoned professional?  Sign up to mentor today. 

    • Best Practice Workshops – Offered periodically, to members of GSCA. Topics can include the RTI process, Advocacy, Implementing a Comprehensive Counseling Program, Using Data to Enhance Counseling Services, etc.   

  •  Professional Recognition Program – Formal recognition of outstanding counselors at all levels, writers, counseling advocates, etc.  The awards are given at the Regional and state levels and winners are submitted for National recognition.   

  •  GSCA Email Blasts – Keep on top of new projects, resources and member benefits with GSCA’s monthly e-newsletter. 

  •  GSCA Scholarships  

    •  Postsecondary scholarships for children of GSCA members entering the first year of postsecondary education. 

    •  The Secondary Counselor of the Year selects one student of his/her choice for a postsecondary scholarship. 

  •  Professional Advocacy – GSCA provides a voice for members at the state and national legislative levels.
