Funding for National Board Certified Teachers
OCTOBER 2009
A GAE ISSUE UPDATE
@Issue: For the 2010 fiscal year, Gov. Sonny Perdue proposed to eliminate National Board Certification stipends for more than 2,000 Georgia’s teachers.
Georgia’s program had previously guaranteed a 10 percent bonus to any teacher achieving this advanced level of certification.
UPDATE—For almost a year, GAE has partnered with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards to secure funding.
Our strategy: GAE has chosen a legislation vs. litigation strategy. In other words, GAE is working closely with legislators to be part of the decision-making process.
